8 Affordable Cat A Electric Cars to Buy in Singapore Before Rebates Shrink in 2026

Singapore’s electric vehicle (EV) market has grown rapidly in the past few years, but 2026 could mark a turning point for buyers. With upcoming revisions to the country’s EV rebate schemes, motorists who have been sitting on the fence might want to make their move sooner rather than later.

Starting January 2026, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will reduce EV-related rebates. Cars under Band A1 of the Vehicular Emissions Scheme (VES) — which covers most electric cars — will see their rebates drop from $25,000 to $22,500. At the same time, the Electric Vehicle Early Adoption Initiative (EEAI) will be scaled back, cutting its maximum rebate from $15,000 to $7,500.

In short, buyers currently enjoy as much as $45,000 in total rebates, but that figure will fall to $30,000 next year — a $15,000 difference. That’s reason enough to act now if you’re eyeing a new EV, especially one eligible for a Category A COE, which caps output at 110kW (147hp) and usually carries a lower premium.

Here are eight Cat A EVs that stand out for their value, features, and everyday practicality — worth a look before the new rules take effect.

1. Kia EV5 Kia’s locally assembled EV5 is a stylish, family-sized SUV that carries the “Made in Singapore” badge with pride. Available in Air and Earth trims, both models deliver 130hp and 314Nm of torque, but differ in battery size. The Air offers a 62.4kWh pack with 400km of range, while the Earth stretches to 88.1kWh and 540km. Spacious, comfortable, and tech-packed, it’s priced from $214,000 with COE, or $230,600 for the top variant.

Why buy it? A local success story that combines practicality with national pride.

2. MG S5 The MG S5 is here to challenge the ever-popular BYD Atto 3, offering a clean design, physical controls, and excellent rear space. Powered by 133hp, it covers 425km on a full charge. While its infotainment system feels slightly dated, it wins points for usability and comfort. Retailing at $201,888 with COE, the S5 is a smart, fuss-free SUV choice.

Why buy it? A simple, well-priced alternative to mainstream Chinese SUVs.

3. Aion V Chinese automaker Aion has made waves with the V, a feature-loaded SUV that offers exceptional value. The Premium variant delivers 435km of range, while the Luxury pushes that to 485km, along with perks like massage seats, a mini fridge, and reclining rear seats. Starting at $191,888 with COE, the Aion V gives you premium comfort without a premium price tag.

Why buy it? One of the best-equipped EVs in its price range, perfect for long rides.

4. Tesla Model Y 110 Tesla’s bestseller gets a Singapore-specific Cat A edition, detuned to 147hp but still quick and capable. It uses a 62.5kWh battery and goes 466km per charge. Inside, you’ll find a refreshed cabin with a rear entertainment screen and power-folding rear seats that expand boot space to a massive 2,138 litres. At $211,365 with COE, it’s a tempting gateway into the Tesla ecosystem.

Why buy it? Premium design and tech at a surprisingly accessible price.

5. Volvo EX30 110kW Compact yet luxurious, the Volvo EX30 brings Scandinavian sophistication to the Cat A market. The Plus model packs a 51kWh battery for 337km, while the Ultra variant extends that to 475km. With 147hp and 343Nm, it’s brisk around town. Prices start from $236,000 with COE, reaching $250,000 for the Ultra.

Why buy it? Premium build quality and clean design from a trusted brand.

6. BYD M6 If you’re hunting for an affordable seven-seater EV, the BYD M6 is one of the few options available. With 134hp, a 71.8kWh battery, and 440km range, it delivers honest value and comfort for families. Standard kit includes a panoramic sunroof and adaptive cruise control, all for $201,888 with COE.

Why buy it? A practical, budget-friendly MPV for larger households.

7. Citroën e-C4X Half sedan, half crossover, the Citroën e-C4X combines quirky French design with comfort and efficiency. Its 54kWh battery gives a 436km range, and it produces 134hp and 270Nm. The soft suspension makes city driving relaxing, though handling is more laid-back than sporty. Priced at $185,999 with COE, it’s one of the most affordable EV sedans today.

Why buy it? Distinctive looks, smooth ride, and great value.

8. Ora Good Cat Cute, compact, and unmistakably fun, the Ora Good Cat is perfect for younger drivers or city commuters. With 141hp, 63kWh battery, and 420km range, it’s surprisingly capable for its size. Interior quality is high, and it offers decent passenger space despite a small 228-litre boot. It goes for $191,999 with COE.
