Why More Young Families Are Choosing Pasir Ris in 2026 — And It's Not Just the New EC

A decade ago, if someone mentioned Pasir Ris, your mind probably jumped to the beach, the giant playground, or the fact that it’s literally the last stop on the East-West MRT Line. Fast forward to 2026, and things have changed — a lot.

Today, Pasir Ris is quickly becoming one of Singapore’s most appealing neighbourhoods for young families, and it’s not just because of the buzz around the upcoming executive condominium (EC) launch at Pasir Ris Northshore. That interest is actually a reflection of the many upgrades this town has seen in recent years — upgrades that have quietly transformed Pasir Ris into a liveable, well-connected, and family-friendly community.

Here’s why more young families are packing up and heading to Pasir Ris:

1. Better Early Childhood and Primary Education Options

Parents today are looking for schools that can support their children from pre-school through to primary education — ideally, all within walking distance. Pasir Ris now offers that:

  • MOE Kindergarten @ Casuarina opened in 2024

  • MOE Kindergarten @ Elias Park is scheduled to open in 2026

These full-day kindergartens offer smooth progression into affiliated primary schools — a big plus for dual-income families.

In addition, school consolidations have brought improved facilities:

  • Coral Primary merged into White Sands Primary in 2019

  • Coral Secondary merged with Siglap to form Meridian Secondary back in 2017

While opinions may vary, most parents appreciate the newer sports halls, classrooms, and enhanced amenities.

International families also have something to look forward to:

  • Overseas Family School (OFS) now runs a massive five-hectare campus in Pasir Ris Heights, with room for over 3,500 students.

  • Metta School 2, a new special needs institution, is set to open by 2028 at the former Coral Primary site — expanding the estate’s inclusiveness for families of all needs.

2. Food, Shopping & Everyday Convenience

Pasir Ris has upped its game in terms of daily convenience and leisure:

  • Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre finally opened in 2018, offering 42 stalls of affordable eats — the estate’s first and only hawker centre.

  • Pasir Ris 8 (Pasir Ris Mall) is a major integrated development with a four-storey mall, a new polyclinic, childcare centre, and direct links to the upgraded MRT interchange and bus hub. It’s now a key lifestyle and transport hub for residents.

  • The classic White Sands Mall got a $40 million facelift between 2014–2016 and is now a modern family-friendly destination.

  • Loyang Point, often overlooked, also reopened after renovations in 2017. It’s now home to a large Kinderland preschool, clinics, and refreshed retail offerings.

  • Downtown East, once a dated resort area, underwent major upgrades. From 2014 to 2018, NTUC revamped it entirely: Wild Wild Wet doubled in size Tayo Station, a massive indoor playground, was added in 2018 E!Hub and E!Avenue now offer more shops, restaurants, and family-oriented spaces

For parents, all of this means less need to leave the estate for food, play, or weekend fun.

3. Parks, Cycling Paths & Green Connectivity

Pasir Ris was an early adopter of LTA’s “cycling towns” initiative, and it shows. Wide, dedicated paths allow residents to get around safely and comfortably — whether on foot, bike, or with a stroller.

  • In 2024, the Eastern Coastal Loop finally opened, connecting Pasir Ris Park to East Coast Park via an 18km corridor — a dream for cyclists and outdoor lovers.

  • New bridges and path networks now link neighbourhood blocks directly to amenities like the town park, hawker centre, and malls — with minimal road crossings. It’s perfect for kids, joggers, or anyone who just wants to enjoy a stroll in the estate.

A Neighbourhood with Real Family Vibes

Pasir Ris may still be considered “far east” geographically, but for young families, it’s feeling increasingly central — central to convenience, community, and quality of life.

With the combination of improved schools, exciting play zones, solid healthcare access, new retail offerings, and a car-light layout, it’s no wonder more families are calling this once-overlooked town their forever home.

So while the upcoming ECs in Pasir Ris may be what draws attention now, the real story is everything else that’s been quietly building up over the years — making Pasir Ris a gem for the next generation.
