SINGAPORE — A sea of over 20,000 devotees gathered on June 8 to witness the sacred consecration of the iconic Sri Sivan Temple, one of Singapore's oldest Hindu temples with roots tracing back to the 1800s. The grand event marked a historic moment for the Hindu community, drawing worshippers from across the island.

The ceremony was graced by Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs K. Shanmugam, who unveiled a commemorative plaque. Speaking to reporters, he emphasized the temple's deep significance: "Today’s consecration holds immense spiritual importance. This temple has long been a cornerstone of faith for Singapore’s Hindu community."

As early as dawn, devotees filled temporary tents outside the Geylang East Avenue 2 site in anticipation of the Maha Kumbhabishegam—a Sanskrit term meaning "grand consecration." The ritual involves pouring sanctified water from ceremonial vessels atop the temple structure.

By 7:30 AM, vibrant chants and traditional melodies echoed through air as priests carried sacred kumbhams (water pots) toward rooftop kalasams (golden pinnacles). Thousands watched via live screens as purified water cascaded from all 22 kalasams—an awe-inspiring sight that symbolized spiritual renewal.

"This is largest consecration I've attended," shared Mdm Navamany Gopalkrishnan (68), retired caterer who secured seats weeks prior. "If I'm in Singapore,I never miss such blessings." Her sentiment reflected collective reverence among attendees.
