A container barge that ran aground near Sentosa’s popular Tanjong Beach has been successfully towed to a safe anchorage for further inspection, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) confirmed in its latest update on Friday.

The incident caused damage to part of the floating security barriers surrounding Sentosa. Authorities have assured the public that the Police Coast Guard is assessing the extent of the damage and will carry out necessary repairs promptly.

To ensure safety, patrols in the area have also been increased as a precautionary measure.

No Injuries or Pollution Reported

The barge, identified as Marco Polo 802, was carrying containers when it grounded early Friday morning (June 6). Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or environmental pollution from the incident.

Tug boats were immediately dispatched to assist in refloating and towing the vessel away from shore. MPA confirmed that despite being stranded briefly, the barge remained stable throughout.

Beach Remains Open for Visitors

"The beach remains open to visitors," MPA stated in its official release. "We are working closely with Sentosa Development Corporation and other agencies to minimize any disruptions."

The authority also emphasized that navigation safety in nearby waters was unaffected by this isolated event.
